January Amigurumi CAL - Goal-Setting Trophies Week Two

Free Amigurumi Crochet pattern: Goal-Setting Trophies

Posted by Brenna Eaves on

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hey everyone, it's Brenna with Little Raven Fiber Arts, back for the first amigurumi CAL of 2018! The beginning of the year is a time for reflection and resolutions, a time to set goals and make plans. I wanted to design something in the spirit of motivation and meeting goals, so here we are... crocheted trophies!
Updated 12/30/2024

The trophies are actual cups that allow you to keep things inside: write down your goals and resolutions on slips of colorful paper to fill the cup, or fill it with candies and treats to award yourself, friends and family! They would make an adorable wedding or party favor!

With this project, everyone's a winner, baby! Let's get started making some amigurumi trophies!

Materials:

  • Worsted weight #4 yarn in gold, silver or bronze. We like Wander Yarn.
  • Size G (4.0mm) Streamline Metal crochet hook (if your stitches tend to be looser, try downsizing one or two hook sizes in order to get the denser stitching that will allow the trophy to hold a firm shape)
  • Small amount of stuffing (for the base)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker (I use a small scrap of yarn)

Abbreviations:

ch = chain

slp st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

sc dec = single crochet decrease

BLO = back loops only

FLO = front loops only

rep *-* = repeat the instructions within the two asterisks the number of times indicated

2x, 3x, etc = 2 times, 3 times, etc

FO = finish off

DO NOT CHAIN 1 AT THE BEGINNING OF ROUNDS OR JOIN ROUNDS WITH SLP ST. Use stitch marker to mark rounds.

Trophy

ch 2 or magic loop

1.  5 sc in 2nd ch from hook / loop (5)

2.  2 sc in each sc around (10)

3.  *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next sc* rep *-* around (15)

4.  sc in each sc around (15)

5.  *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next sc* rep *-* around, sc in last sc (22)

6.  *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 2 sc* rep *-* around, sc in last sc (29)

7-10.  sc in each sc around (29)

11.  *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 6 sc* rep *-* around, sc in last sc (33)

12-16.  sc in each sc around (33)

Turn the cup inside out and continue working like this

17.  in BLO, *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 6 sc* rep *-* 4x, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last 4 sc (38)

18.  still in BLO, *sc dec, sc in next 17 sc* rep *-* 2x (36)

19-22.  now in both loops, sc in each sc around (36)

Fold the cup over itself like the cuff of a sock. Round 17 will become the lip of the trophy cup. Continue working with the cup like this, the new rounds superposing the interior of the cup.

23.  *sc dec, sc in next 7 sc* rep *-* 4x (32)

24-28.  sc in each sc around (32)

29.  *sc dec, sc in next 4 sc* rep *-*, sc dec (26)

30.  sc in 1st 3 sc, *sc dec, sc in next 3 sc* rep *-* 4x, sc dec, sc (21)

31.  *sc dec, sc in next sc* rep *-* 7x (14)

32.   sc in each sc around (14)

33.  *sc dec, sc in next 5 sc* rep *-* 2x (12)

34.  sc in each sc around (12)

35.  *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 3 sc* rep *-* 3x (15)

36.  *2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next sc* rep *-* 7x, 2 sc in last sc (23)

37.  sc in 1st 3 sc, *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc* rep *-* 5x (28)

38.  sc in each sc around (28)

39.  in BLO, *sc dec, sc in next 3 sc* rep *-* 5x, sc dec, sc in last sc (22)

40.  now in both loops, sc in next sc, *sc dec, sc in next 2 sc* rep *-* 4x, sc dec, sc in next sc, sc dec (16)

Gently stuff the stem and base of the trophy. You won’t need a lot.

41.  sc in 1st sc, *sc dec, sc in next sc* rep *-* around (11)

42.  sc dec around

FO and sew any remaining hole closed.

To allow the trophy to stand on its own, poke the tail through the center of the bottom of the trophy and pull it through the center of the inside of the cup (the center of the 5 sc of round 1). Pull snug so the base of the trophy becomes slightly convex. To secure this, poke the tail down through round 2 to the center of the bottom and weave in the end. This also serves to anchor the bottom of the cup so it cannot be pulled inside-out like a pants pocket.

For the decorative ring around the base of the trophy, reattach yarn to the exposed front loops of round 39 and work *slp st, ch 1* around. FO and weave in the ends.

Handles

Make 2

ch 2 or magic loop

1.  4 sc in 2nd ch from hook / loop (4)

2-15.  sc in each sc around (4)

FO and sew round 15 of the handle to about round 28 of the trophy.

Slip the yarn needle up between the two layers of the trophy cup until it comes out at round 19 (directly above the bottom of the handle), then secure round 1 of the handle to the trophy cup. Weave in the end and repeat with the second handle directly opposite of the first.

That's it!
