Furls + One Tree Planted 2023 Report

Furls + One Tree Planted 2023 Report

Posted by Heather Mann on

On Earth Day 2022, Furls Fiberarts decided to plant one tree for every wood crochet hook sold. After seeing the impact we could make through this commitment, we made a much larger pledge on Earth Day 2023: to plant one tree for every wood product sold until Earth Day 2024.

One Tree is Planted for Every Wood Product Sold - Furls Fiberarts and One Tree Planted

This initiative is made in commitment to and partnership with One Tree Planted, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to global reforestation that earned the 2023 Platinum Seal of Transparency.

Furls provides monthly updates to consumers with the impact of this initiative, which can all be found on our One Tree Planted page, part of our larger Commitment to Sustainability pledge. With each Furls Crochet wood product you choose, you're not just adding to your collection, you're contributing to a greener world, a legacy of giving back, and a forest of hope.

To date, we have planted 15,425 trees for this initiative, in locations such as the Andes Mountains, Alberta, CA, and our favorite, "where trees are needed most."

One Tree Planted plants trees as a way to restore nature and biodiversity. They also raise awareness about the importance of trees, offer businesses like ours a partnership sustainability solution, and encourage younger generations to create positive change for our environment.

Each month, Furls receives a certification from One Tree Planted of how many trees were planted the month before, and for transparency, provides a photo of this certificate on our One Tree Planted information page. With your help, in January 2024, we planted 508 trees in Ontario!

How Have Our Contributions Made an Impact?

Our contributions have made an impact across many of One Tree Planted's initiatives. A few projects have helped global sustainability by:
  • Planting oyamel fir and other native tree species to restore forests and help protect vital monarch butterfly nesting grounds in California and Mexico
  • Planting fruit trees across 12 states in India to help fight hunger, improve local economies, and combat climate change
  • Aiding reforestation partners in planting 4.4 million trees for Forest Fire Recovery in California.

How Can You Help?

Every time you purchase a wood product from Furls, whether it's an Alpha Series hook, a wood bowl, or even a needle case, you are helping to reforest our planet.
